FRU Unit 3 visited by Bukit Bendera & Kebun Bunga reps

BUKIT Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai and Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong paid a courtesy visit to Unit 3 of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) at Padang Tembak today.

“This base which was built in 1973 with an area of 22 acres holds a historic significance and serves as a training ground for officers and now needs some serious attention in terms of its basic amenities.

“During the British colonial days, a shooting range was built here and hence this area (Padang Tembak) was known as Rifle Range.

“So, today with the current political reform taking place at the federal level, we have got the opportunity to pay a courtesy visit to the squad and I think it is important to look into the welfare of the FRU personnel,” said Wong.

According to Wong, the facilities at the base are in dire condition and need to be upgraded.

“I will be bringing up the matter during the next parliament session,” he said.

The acting head (Pemangku Pegawai Perintah), DSP Shi Tian Aik said that Unit 3 of the FRU takes care of the northern region covering Penang, Kedah and Perlis and the unit is comprised of some 305 officers.

On the other hand, Ong hoped that the ties between state and the squad can be further strengthen.

“The previous government had neglected the upgrading of some basic facilities which are crucial so as to take care the well-being of the FRU squad.

“We are happy that through this inaugural visit, we are able to build a good working relationship and forge a better understanding between state and federal government agencies,” added Ong.
