Grand affair at launch of Berapit election operation centre

LION dance performances, food trucks and Pakatan Harapan T-shirts and goodies on sale made the launching ceremony of the Berapit election operation centre on the mainland even more special and lively today!

Heng Lee Lee, who is defending the Berapit seat which she won in 2018, conveyed her heartfelt appreciation to DAP for allowing her to contest for the second time in the same constituency.

“Without DAP, I would not have been here with all of you my dear constituents.

“Thank you to the state and national leadership for having confidence in me, and in return, I will ensure we (PH) win this seat again for a better future for the people of Berapit,” Heng said in her speech.

Penang PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow, in his speech, congratulated Heng for being chosen as a candidate for the upcoming state election.

“Just as the atmosphere is very lively and happening tonight, let’s emulate this same spirit throughout this campaigning period as we are just a week or so heading toward election day on Aug 12,” Chow said.

As PH and BN now share a common sentiment rather than being bitter rivals like yesteryears, Chow said it is important for both these parties to support one another during this campaigning period.

“I have been a DAP member since 1986, and for the first time, I walked along with some of the leaders and supporters donning shades of blue (the colour associated with Barisan Nasional) when I showed my support by participating in the walkabout in Sungai Acheh earlier today.

“It is a new experience and an important test for all of us at the state level as to whether we can emulate the friendship forged by PH and BN at the Federal level,” Chow said.

BN candidate Rashidi Zinol will be contesting the Sungai Acheh seat.

In a related development, he also said following the commitment given by each party to support one another, PH voters should cast their votes for BN candidates in constituencies PH candidates are not contesting.

“Similarly, the same scenario applies to BN voters.

“This way, we will be able to close the gates on Perikatan Nasional and maybe even go on and win all the seats PH and BN are contesting in Penang,” he added.

Also present during the launching ceremony were national DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, former Padang Lalang assemblyman Chong Eng and its new candidate Daniel Gooi.
