MORE than RM417 million has been allocated by the Penang government for various welfare programmes and activities over the past 15 years, says caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow said this when he attended the charity dinner organised by the Pertubuhan Kebajikan, Kebudayaan dan Sosial Kaum India Pulau Pinang at the Penang Golf Club in Bukit Jambul tonight.

“Such significant amount is a proof that the current leadership of the state government cares for the people, especially the underprivileged.

“The allocation also has benefitted underprivileged groups from various categories, regardless of their race and religion,” he said.

Chow also commended the Pertubuhan Kebajikan, Kebudayaan dan Sosial Kaum India Pulau Pinang for their active participation in various charitable activities over the years.

The association, established in 2008, has also assisted the state government in helping underprivileged groups with food baskets, education and other social works.

Chow added that it is important for non-profit organisations such as Pertubuhan Kebajikan, Kebudayaan dan Sosial Kaum India Pulau Pinang to continue being productive and contribute to the well-being of the society.

Also present during the programme tonight were Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Zin, Batu Uban candidate A. Kumaresan, who is also the adviser of Pertubuhan Kebajikan, Kebudayaan dan Sosial Kaum India Pulau Pinang.
