THE first-ever Penang International Jewellery Show (PGIJS) 2020 is set to be held from April 24 to April 26 at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas.

The three-day event, organised by Valuqo Sdn Bhd, will feature more than 40 jewellery brands from 20 countries such as Japan, the United States, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Thailand, Singapore and many more.

More than 50,000 pieces of the most luxurious and trendiest jewellery collections are expected to be showcased during PGIJS 2020.

Valuqo Sdn Bhd director Ooi Chai Yong said the event would be expecting more than 500 expert jewellers from locals and abroad.

“PGIJS 2020 will serve as a one-stop platform for all gold jewellery manufacturers, traders, retailers and jewellery designers who are seeking unlimited business opportunities in Penang.

“The event will also have a sharing session on topics focusing on new gold jewellery designs and new technologies introduced by international manufacturers and jewellers in the gold industry.

“In addition, PGIJS 2020 will also feature a new, vibrant and exciting component known as the ‘Golden Street’ where individual gold companies are able to showcase their brands to the public for them to purchase,” Ooi told a press conference at The Whiteaways Arcade building in Beach Street, George Town today.

Also present were state Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekaran, Goldsmiths Federation and Malaysia Jewellers Associations president Datuk Steven Siow Dek Kuen and its deputy president Chiah Hock Yew.

According to Yeoh, through this event, Penang’s profile in the jewellery industry would be further known especially in the Asian market.

“Over the years, we can see that the state plays a major role as a producer of gold jewellery for export markets, contributing 80% of Malaysia’s total exports of RM5.89 billion in 2018.

“Thus, I believe PGIJS 2020 will bring more international buyers, traders, retailers and jewellery designers to Penang.

“And I hope this event will become the most prestigious event in South East Asia, as well as in Asia while boosting the tourism sector and increasing the economic impact in Penang,” Yeoh added.

PGIJS 2020 is supported by the Penang government, PCEB, Malacca Goldsmith Merchants Association and Goldsmiths Federation and Malaysia Jewellers Associations.
