Jubilation for three MPKKs in Southwest Penang Island District

IT was an unforgettable moment for three Village Community Management Councils (MPKK) when they came out as the top three in the Southwest Penang Island District MPKK Awards 2020.

The champion of MPKK Awards went to Simpang Empat (Pulau Betong constituency), followed by Bukit Gedung (Batu Maung constituency) and Gertak Sanggul (Bayan Lepas constituency).

They triumphed in the competition that saw a close battle among 59 participating MPKKs before the number was whittled down to six.

While waiting for the results, some teams looked tense while others looked confident. When the top three winners were announced, they burst with joy and excitement.

Simpang Empat MPKK chairman Mohd Majdan Nut Jamudin, on behalf of his team, said they were delighted after receiving the recognition.

He said his team, comprising 14 people, has done well in serving the community.

“This is a team effort and we value the importance of cooperation among the members in MPKK.

“Discipline, responsibility and teamwork are the important ingredients to success.

“I would like to thank my team for the good team spirit shown by everyone all the while. Thank you everyone!” he told Buletin Mutiara.

Bukit Gedung MPKK chairman Mohd Zaini Ahmad also shared his happiness and joy when approached.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to my MPKK team for striving to give their best in their duty.

“This recognition is given based on each of the MPKK administration profile and community involvement in an organised programme, ” he added.

Meanwhile, Gertak Sanggul MPKK chairman Leong Kein Cheong was in cloud nine after his team made it to third place, saying that the MPKK role was to serve the people efficiently.

The winner won RM3,000 while the second and third placed teams bagged RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively.

Deputy Chief Minister l Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, who was present, emphasised the importance of MPKK.

“MPKK is a platform for bridging the gap between the state government administration and the community.

Zakiyuddin delivering his speech before the top three teams are announced.

“Therefore, it is important for MPKKs to play their role in a proper manner,” he said.

Also present were state Trade and Industry, and Entrepreneurial Development Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, who is also the Batu Maung assemblyman, and Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz.
