THE Koperasi Komuniti Pulau Pinang Selatan Berhad (KKPPSB) has entered a new phase of growth by announcing a five per cent dividend payout for the 2025 financial year and launching its own range of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat food products for the commercial market.
The historic announcement was made during the cooperative’s 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) officiated by Penang Trade and National Unity Committee chairman Goh Choon Aik at Raia Inn Penang recently.
Four premium locally produced products, Black Beef Stew Paste, Penang Fish Curry Paste, Rose Chicken Paste and Crispy Anchovy Sambal were officially introduced. All four products have obtained halal certification and are now available at the KKPPSB office at Amarene Square, Bayan Lepas.
The initiative serves as an excellent example of cooperative innovation in maximising community potential to produce high-quality downstream products with strong commercial value.
In his speech, KKPPSB chairman Mohd Kamal Abdullah called on all members to give their full support by becoming the cooperative’s first ambassadors and promoters within their respective communities.
He said members’ support through product purchases is crucial as every ringgit spent on cooperative products ultimately contributes to profits and future dividend generation.
To celebrate the launch, the Cooperative Board also offered three special promotional combo packages at discounted prices during the AGM.
Meanwhile, Goh expressed his admiration for KKPPSB’s achievements in breaking away from conventional cooperative models through the development of its own branded food products.
Goh, who was representing Deputy Chief Minister I, Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting KKPPSB, particularly in market expansion.
KKPPSB was established under the Social Impact Management Plan (SIMP) initiative to assist and empower the socio-economic development of fishing communities that are involved in the Silicon Island project.
In addition to its food products, KKPPSB has outlined ambitious plans for the remainder of the 2026 Financial Year, including the commercial operation of beverage kiosks at strategic locations and the systematic management of business sites, encompassing food courts and local canteens.
The cooperative will also continue the construction of the Package 2 fishermen’s sheds in Kampung Binjai for the benefit of the fishing community, while supplying boats and engines to eligible registered fishermen under the Penang government’s SIMP scheme.
To date, KKPPSB’s organisational strength continues to grow, with membership reaching 1,391 members. This growth is driven by the unique synergy among three key groups, namely the civil servants and government-linked company (GLC) personnel, local communities and the fishing communities on the southern coast of Penang island.
This year’s AGM recorded the attendance of 888 members, comprising fishermen, residents and entrepreneurs from the southern region of Penang island, reflecting KKPPSB’s increasingly significant role in strengthening the local community economy.
Also present at the event were Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission Penang director Dr Zainab A. Raman, Penang Infrastructure Corporation chief executive officer and KKPPSB Board member Datuk Seri Farizan Darus, KKPPSB secretary Mohd Perdaus Pawan Chik and treasurer Azmi Mohamad.
During the AGM, KKPPSB also celebrated the academic achievements of four children of cooperative members who excelled in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, presenting each recipient with a cash contribution of RM500.
The award recipients were Tan Chun Yan from SMK Chung Ling (10A), Muhammad Hafiy Abu Hurairah from SMK Bukit Jambul (9A), Muhammad Haziq Mu’izzuddin Khairudin from SMK Chalok (8A) and Nur Dhia Addina Muhammad Affnan from SMA Maahad Al-Mashoor Al Islami (7A).
The event concluded with a lucky draw featuring 17 attractive prizes, including two e-bikes, a washing machine and three television sets, as a token of appreciation for members who attended.
