THE spirit of Deepavali was infused with innovation as Tech Dome Penang hosted its ‘Festive with STEM Deepavali’ programme, engaging 80 students from two Tamil schools in an exciting science and technology learning experience.
A total of 80 students, forty each from SJKT Perai and SJKT Mak Mandin, participated in the programme, which was held in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.
A key highlight was the ‘Festive Vibes: Light Up with the Beat’ activity, during which students assembled LED lights with guidance from Tech Dome Penang staff and representatives from Flex Technology (Penang) Sdn Bhd.
Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, who officiated the event, underscored the vital role of education, particularly STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning, in shaping Penang’s future.

Jagdeep emphasised that Science and Mathematics play a crucial role in preparing young talents for Penang’s expanding technological and industrial landscape.
“Learning these subjects opens doors for the next generation. We want our students to be resilient and persevering,” he said.
He then encouraged the students: “Study hard, and education will take you to your destination.” Jagdeep also pledged full sponsorship for the programme.
The initiative centred on hands-on STEM activities aimed at strengthening students’ problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity, skills increasingly essential in today’s job market.
Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi said the programme is part of the organisation’s long-term effort to cultivate interest and confidence in STEM among children in Penang.
“By giving students space to explore, experiment, and ask questions, we hope to build a foundation for future innovators and problem solvers.
“Whether they are building a simple gadget or exploring the science behind colours and patterns, every activity is designed to encourage discovery,” he shared.
Khoo also expressed appreciation to Flex for its strong support, noting that partnerships between industry and community create meaningful opportunities for the younger generation.
He encouraged students to make full use of the experience by learning boldly and embracing curiosity.
