Liow chided for singing extremist tune

SPEAKING to the press on Dec 18, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng responded to the remarks made by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai that having Guan Eng’s father Lim Kit Siang as prime minister once Pakatan Harapan comes into federal power will create racial rift among Malaysians.

Commenting that what Liow said, as reported in an English daily, is nothing short of stoking racial and religious sensitivity between Muslims and non-Muslims, the DAP secretary-general said such tactics will only cause a split among the people.

“What he said are baseless accusations against Kit Siang which the DAP has repeatedly denied. Show proof that the DAP ever demanded for the prime minister’s post. We have never made such a demand. Liow Tiong Lai is now singing the same tune as PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang,” he said.

“It’s very shameful that a Chinese leader in BN can resort to extremism like what Umno and PAS are doing to stoke animosity against his own race. This is betrayal of the highest order!” Lim added.

“DAP leaders have never demanded to be the prime minister. It’s Umno and PAS which are working in tandem and sound very adamant in promoting (the idea of having) Lim Kit Siang as PM.

“A general election is a contest of ideas, moral principles and the truth. It’s not supposed to be based on hatred, threats or scare tactics by pitting Muslims against non-Muslims,” added the chief minister.
