Many sectors contribute greatly to Penang’s development, says CM Chow

THE fruits we see in Penang today are a result of many sectors working hard to achieve a common goal, which is to make the state a preferred destination for various purposes, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.

One good example that Chow quoted was when Penang managed to record RM13.7 billion in approved manufacturing investments from January to December last year.

“This kind of achievement was made possible through collective efforts by many other sectors, including tourism, entrepreneurship, community development, education, housing, food security, youth development and sports.

“While this is our core strength, the state government is also committed to continuing to implement welfare-based activities for the benefit of the rakyat, particularly the underprivileged groups.

“At the end of the day, the results we have been producing through our tireless contributions over the years are for all of us to experience and enjoy the fruits together.

“For instance, just recently, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the Penang South Islands (PSI) project has received conditional approval from the Department of Environment (DoE) under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change.

“As mentioned before, the approval includes 71 conditions to be complied with.

“Moving forward, we are now pursuing the approval of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) from the DoE through our project delivery partner (PDP).

“The PSI project plays a vital role in our state’s development,” Chow said in his speech during the Penang State Hari Raya celebration at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas today.

The tri-islands (Islands A, B and C) will be located at the south end of Penang Island, measuring a total of 4,500 acres in land size. Island A will be 2,300 acres in size, Island B will be 1,400 acres and Island C will be 800 acres.

As for the event earlier, it was organised by the Penang State Secretariat Office and attended by civil servants, representing their respective departments and agencies.

The event was graced by the presence of the Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his consort Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Noor.

Also, present during the event were Penang State Secretary Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, Penang State Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy and Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng.
