MBPP recognised for green efforts

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has earned two awards in the MalaysiaGBC Leadership in Sustainability Award 2020. The council has also bagged a special mention award.

The MalaysiaGBC Leadership in Sustainability Award 2020 was organised by the Malaysian Green Building Council (MGBC).

MGBC president Sim Chee Liang said the awards were given to showcase and celebrate the achievements of businesses, projects and leaderships in a sustainable built environment in Malaysia between 2018 and 2020.

“There were eight awards and MBPP took home two. The council also won a special mention award.

“The council won the ‘Best Sustainability Leadership for Institution’ award and MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang grabbed the ‘Best Corporate Leadership’ (Male) award.

“MBPP also won the ‘Special Award for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)’, which is a new award to recognise the excellent achievement in adopting SDG in the sustainable built environment,” Sim said during the award presentation in front of GAMA Supermarket and Departmental Store today.

Sim added that the MBPP would be representing Malaysia in the WorldGBC Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards 2020 which will be held on Dec 4.

“We are hoping for the best,’’ he said.

Yew dedicated the awards to his staff for their hard work and dedication in ensuring green efforts are implemented.

Also present were MBPP secretary Datuk Addnan Mohd Razali and Urban Services Department director Mubarak Junus.
