MBSP mayor warns of park closure if visitors defy SOP

ANOTHER public recreational park on the mainland in Penang risks temporary closure if the public continues to ignore the standard operating procedure (SOP).

Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the council would have no choice but to close down the recreational park at Taman Tunku in Seberang Jaya if the people do not comply with the SOP.

He said many of the people thronging the park did not adhere to the regulations imposed.

“Many of them failed to comply with the physical distancing and also some other SOP measures.

“Hence, I am forewarning the people that Taman Tunku recreational park will be closed in one week if the people continue to flout the SOP.

“We are doing this for the sake of public health and safety in view with the current Covid-19 pandemic.

“I hope those using the park can adhere to the SOP measures,” he told a press conference before inspecting the disinfection process carried out at the flats in Jalan Tuna, Seberang Jaya today.

So far, the Vision Park in Kepala Batas has been closed by the council.

State Local Government, Housing, Country and Town Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, who was present, called on Penangites to continue complying with the SOP.

Disinfection process is being carried out at the neighbourhood.

“We want Penang to return to its green zone status again and I hope the state will achieve the aim.

“So far, both islanders and mainlanders have done a great job in complying with the SOP,” he said.

Later, Jagdeep, Rozali and those present witnessed the disinfection process carried out by firemen and a hazardous materials (Hazmat) response team.

Also present was state Housing Department senior principal assistant secretary Ainul Fadhilah Samsudi.
