THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) is set to make every Wednesday a cashless transaction day at its payment counters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam, beginning next month.
Its mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad said this was in view of the council’s digitalisation effort.
“This initiative will begin on June 1, whereby cash payment will not be used on the day itself.
“Those who visit the MBSP payment counters to perform any of their transactions are advised to use digital apps such as ‘Cyber Counter MBSP’, MBSPPay, Jompay, e-boost and ‘TnG e-wallet’.
“We are preparing various kiosks to ensure a smooth operation.
“There will be a special counter available for those senior citizens and others to perform their payment if they are not well-versed with cashless facilities,” he said during the MBSP’s council meeting in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.
Azhar said other relevant services can also be performed online, which include renewal of MBSP business licences, change of name and postal address for assessment tax, dog licence application, disabled car sticker application, banner sticker application, MBSP sports complex booking, assessment tax payment, MBSP compound and staff rental.
“This cashless transaction effort is deemed as a catalyst to ensure safe and excellent services from the council.
“We want to inculcate the awareness of online and cashless transactions among Seberang Perai residents,” he said.
On the current hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), Azhar urged the people in Seberang Perai to be vigilant and ensure a hygienic environment in their neighbourhood.
“We need to ensure cleanliness in our surroundings as there have been numerous HFMD cases involving children,” he said.
Meanwhile, Azhar said he was also proud after World Wide Fund (WWF) had announced that Seberang Perai has emerged top in the One Planet City Challenge (OPCC).
