LANTERN parade, arts and crafts workshops, lion dance and stage performances are set to take place at Desa Mawar neighbourhood park in Air Itam this Thursday (Sept 28).
Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, who announced the ‘Air Itam Kids Autumn Carnival’, said the annual event starting at 5.30pm would attract more than 600 people, including young children to participate in the joyous occasion.
“There will be food trucks and stalls selling various delicacies, along with mascots and fun games.
“Prior to this, a series of George Town Festival (GTF) events have taken place in Air Itam. Hence, many Air Itam folk have requested us to organise a similar event in view of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
“We hope the public can come with their family to enjoy the event,” he said at a press conference in Desa Mawar today.
Ng added the public can also purchase the souvenirs that would be available during the event.
The carnival is jointly organised by Air Itam service centre in collaboration with the Wise Junios Kindergarten and the Kong Min School Old Pupils’ Association.
Admission is free. The public can park their vehicles at Sin Kang Primary School, opposite the Desa Mawar neighbourhood park.
Also present during the press conference were Wise Junios Kindergarten consultant Dr Lim Beng Suat and Kong Min School Old Pupils’ Association president Cheah Deng Kee.
On a separate matter, Ng hoped the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) can provide an explanation on why a contractor who failed to manage rubbish collection in Air Itam constituency early this year has been reappointed.
“I have received a notice on Sept 12, stating that the contractor will begin its rubbish collection services starting Oct 1.
“We hope the council can provide a feedback on the matter,” he said, adding that many Air Itam folk had channeled their complaints to him over the issue early this year.
