THE owners of the 25 wooden houses in Tanjong Tokong affected by the rare phenomenon of waterspout received some good news today.

On behalf of the state, Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Zairil Khir Johari handed RM300 cheque to each owner to repair their houses, many of which had their roofs blown off in the freak incident.

The cheques came from the allocation of Zairil’s office, state Welfare Department and Buddhist Tzu Chi Merits Society Malaysia.

Zairil hands over a cheque to one of the affected residents in Tanjong Tokong.

After the cheque presentation, Zairil told reporters that the waterspout was an isolated case and unpredictable incident.

Zairil added that developers, such as E&O Property Development Berhad, Ideal Property Group and UDA, also assisted affected residents after the storm.

He pointed out that so far about 98 percent of the repair works had been carried out.
