Motorists urged to settle MBSP parking compounds before Dec 31

VEHICLE owners with outstanding parking compounds issued by the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) have until the end of December to settle all their summonses or face stricter action.

MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said there is no reason for them to avoid paying the fines since the compound rate has been reduced to only RM5 for each summons.

“Previously, it was RM30 per summons for parking offences.

“But starting from Sept 1 until Dec 31, we are giving a reduction promotion for parking compounds for only RM5.

“However, this reduction does not apply to offences involving motorists who park at disabled parking lots and cases that have been registered in court.

“So, they have about one-and-a-half month to do so. They can pay their parking compounds online through e-wallet platform, Boost, or through MBSP cyber counters or directly at MBSP physical counter.

“Thus, I hope motorists will make use of this opportunity to pay their fines while the promotion still lasts,” Rozali told a press conference after chairing a full council meeting at the MBSP headquarters building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

According to Rozali, the city council will take stricter action after the Dec 31 deadline against offenders who have refused to pay up.

“This includes towing the car to our office and the owners will have to pay a higher compound. We will also take court action against them,” he added.

However, Rozali said vehicle owners can meet him personally before Dec 31 if they still having trouble in settling their parking compounds.

“I understand that during these trying times due to Covid-19 pandemic, many lose their jobs. This affects their source of income.

“Thus, then can meet me personally at MBSP building here every Friday at 9.30am and I will do my best to help them, including considering to waive the fines if they are really incapable of paying the compound,” he said.

To check the parking compounds’ list, the public can go to the MBSP official website at https://www.mbsp.gov.my/.

On a separate note, Rozali also announced that the tax assessment bill for the year 2021 would be sent digitally through email or short message service (SMS).

“This initiative is in line with our efforts towards digitalisation and to minimise human movement to control the spread of the virus.

“So property owners are required to ensure that their details such as email address and phone numbers are up to date.

“They can do so at MBSP official website and they can also check their tax assessment bill at the website as well,” he said.
