Motorola Solutions lauded for its contributions to state

PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow congratulated Motorola Solutions Malaysia for being awarded the HR Asia’s Best Companies to Work for in Asia 2018.

He made the compliment at the start of his speech during its Penang Site Dinner & Dance 2018 held in conjunction with Motorola’s 90th anniversary.

2018 also marks Motorola Penang’s 44-year journey in the state which began in 1974.

“The state government values the investments already here and the many years of strong relationship that we’ve built,” Chow told about 1,200 Motorola employees at the function held at the Setia Spice Convention Centre tonight.

“We’re confident that Penang will remain a thriving growth hub for many years to come. This is in line with the Penang2030 aspirations aimed at making Penang a model for the nation and the world announced on Aug 30, 2018.

“Themed ‘A Family-focused Green and Smart State to Inspire the Nation’, the policy package is the state’s four-pronged vision to increase liveability to enhance quality of life, upgrade the economy, empower the people to strengthen civic participation and invest in the built environment.”

Also present were Motorola Solutions Malaysia managing director Solomon Lorthu, Motorola Solutions Inc. corporate vice-president devices Scott Mottonen, vice-president supply chain Chris Clark, vice-president PCR business Russ Lund, vice-president supply chain operations Lisa Stenglein, Motorola Solutions Singapore general manager (Developed Asia and Japan) Chuah Seng Heng and Motorola Solutions Malaysia country manager Datuk Rauf Nasir.

Solomon, in his speech, said he felt incredibly proud to be part of Motorola Solutions in celebrating its 90th anniversary.

“Amidst decades of ever evolving technology and ever evolving business landscape, our company has come to serve more than 100,000 customers in more than 100 countries worldwide from a great position of market leadership and trusted partnership. A distinction that many companies aspire to every day but few can lay claim today,” Solomon said.

“Tonight, let us celebrate our legacy and the many years of achievements and tomorrow we will set our targets higher.”

Mottonen spoke on the history of the company, especially on its success with radio products while Clark touched on the three key success components – people, teamwork and integrity.

When it came to fun time, the employees let their hair down in an event, themed “The Greatest Show – Better Together’.
