WAYWARD teenagers can be brought back to the right path through education and spirituality and this was conveyed to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow by the representatives from Persatuan Kebajikan Persatuan Kebajikan Shree Maha Mariamman during their courtesy visit today.

The delegates led by association chairman R. Sarwaisveran raised their concerns on youngsters getting indulged in social ills.

“We are planning to provide free tuition classes for the poor and needy students.

“So to hold those classes, we are looking for a place somewhere around Maccallum Street.

“We are concerned of the education quality of the community especially the Indians, thus through free education programmes such as this, we believe it can help them in their studies.

“In a way, this would prevent them from getting involved in unhealthy activities and keep them on the right track,” said Sarwaisveran.

The chairman, furthermore, also emphasised the importance of equipping the youngsters with spiritual knowledge.

“One of the core elements in building good character is spirituality. Thus, we aim to conduct spirituality-related programmes for the youngsters.

“I believe education and spirituality can bring back teenagers who went astray,” added Sarwaisveran.

Responding to the delegates’ concerns, Chow stated that the state government will support the effort of the association in its community activities and appreciates their thoughtfulness for the teenagers.
