MP and rep bring Deepavali joy to the underprivileged

IN conjunction with the Deepavali festivities, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ihsan Muda organised a hamper presentation ceremony at the Bukit Dumbar
neighbourhood recently.

Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer and Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, who were the chief guests at the ceremony, presented the hampers containing grocery items to 20 families to ease their burden during the festive season.

According Rayer, the hamper handover is a yearly practice that is done to bring cheer to families who are not financially sound.

“During a joyous festivity such as Deepavali, I believe everyone deserves to be happy and celebrate the good tidings of the festival with their loved ones,’’ he said at the ceremony.

Deepavali, which is celebrated by Hindus, signifies the victory of light over darkness. Hence, it is also known as “The Festival of Lights”.
