IN order to improve the level of food hygiene, Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) will continue to implement the grading and enforcement programmes since 2010 at food premises.

In order to achieve that objective, MPSP president Datuk Rozali Mohamud launched the food hygience campaign today at Insadunia food court in Bukit Mertajam.

“Food inspection activities will be carried out by MPSP once every three months to assess the level of hygiene as required under the guidelines.

“The food premises that achieved the first stage will be rewarded with a sticker (Grade A & B).

“The campaign aims to focus on hygiene education at food premises as well as to improve ratings, like from Grade ‘C’ to Grade ‘B’ or ‘A’,” he said.

The Food Premises Hygiene Campaign, starting from today until Feb 3 next year, is divided into several phases.

Dirty eating outlets will be given a grace period of 14 days for them to make improvements in order to obtain a better rating. The inspection period for now will lasts until Nov 30.

Enforcement actions such as the issuing of compounds will be taken if the particular eatery fails to comply with the MPSP guidelines.

It is hoped that this campaign will further improve the level of hygiene and the grading of food premises while at the same time safeguarding the health of patrons and members of the publi from food and water borne diseases such as food poisoning, cholera, typhoid and hepatitis A.
