THE Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line project is progressing smoothly, with the state government carrying out work related to land matters and the relocation of affected residents.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow shared this during a press conference held at St Giles Wembley Hotel when attending the Penang Women Chamber of Commerce (PWCC)’s 8th Chinese New Year and Women’s Day Celebration today.

According to Chow, at this stage, the state government is focusing on land issues and the relocation of residents, which fall under its purview.

“Other matters, such as engineering and contracts, come under MRT Corp and its contractors,” Chow added.

Apart from that, Chow said the relocation process involves about 12 houses in the Sungai Dua area.

“Speaking about Sungai Dua in particular, there are not many houses involved. This is because the line enters a village near the Sungai Dua Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ),” he said.

The construction of the Mutiara Line began in 2025 and is expected to be operational by December 2031.

On a separate matter, concerning the quit rent issue, Chow said the state government will announce the first round of appeals following consideration by the state executive council.
