THIRTY-TWO delegation members from the Negeri Sembilan’s Rahang state constituency led by its assemblyman, Mary Josephine Pritam Singh, paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at his office in Komtar today.

Josephine praised Penang for many things, especially the state’s cleanliness, systematic waste management and for incorporating sustainability and green initiatives across the different blooming industries in the state.

“It is such a pleasure to be here and thank you so much for hosting us today.

“I am proud to say that cleanliness is one of the many major aspects that other states should emulate Penang.

“As always, Penang serves as an exemplary model for championing numerous initiatives beyond just maintaining cleanliness in its city,” Josephine said.

Chow said the Penang government has consistently prioritised initiatives that benefit the community and promote overall development in the state since 2008.

“For example, in terms of waste management, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) have been proactive in introducing various green initiatives to improve waste management throughout the state.

“They have certainly played an integral part in the development of our state as a clean city over the years.

“In the past, we have encountered challenges with waste management. One such incident occurred not long ago at the Pulau Burung landfill on the mainland, where a fire broke out.

However, with the implementation of effective solutions, we were able to quickly resolve the issue and provide assistance to those affected in the surrounding area.

“The bottom line is that by implementing effective policies and solutions to address issues, any state can rise to prominence and gain recognition,” Chow said.

Chow noted that Penang, despite its relatively small size, is a major economic driver in the country, largely due to its significant contributions in the service and manufacturing industries.

Also present during the courtesy visit were Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng and special officer to Josephine, Lawrence Fah.
