NEWLY-APPOINTED Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying is taking criticisms about her recent assignment in the Unity Cabinet 2023 reshuffle in her stride.

Formerly the Deputy Education Minister, Lim was selected by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, also the Finance Minister, to assist him and Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

Lim says she will carry out her responsibility to the best of her ability as the new Deputy Finance Minister.

“I appreciate the prime minister’s trust in me. This role comes with significant responsibilities, and I am committed to supporting Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah to the best of my ability.

“I’ve faced criticisms before. When I was selected as a senator in 2018, when I contested the Tanjong parliamentary seat, and when I became the Deputy Education Minister, criticisms were part of the process.

“I am not perfect, just like everyone else. I acknowledge the criticisms, but my focus is on delivering what I have promised for the rakyat.

“I am grateful to the leaders who have confidence in me. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is overseas, also sent his congratulations,” Lim told reporters before a walkabout today at the Chowrasta Market, where she distributed calendars to market-goers, traders and hawkers.

Accompanying her was Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng and her Tanjong Parliamentary Service Centre staff members and volunteers.

As the Tanjong MP, Lim expressed her appreciation to Chow (Padang Kota assemblyman), Teh (Komtar assemblyman), and Wong Yuee Harn (Pengkalan Kota assemblyman), for their exceptional teamwork in implementing programmes for constituents within her parliamentary constituency.

Looking ahead to next year, Lim mentioned her focus on initiatives for the ageing society.
