A NEW food complex will be built adjacent to the Taman Bagan Market early next year.
Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy said the construction works of the new food complex is expected to start in January 2022 and complete in April the same year.
“The new Taman Bagan food complex is a project under the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) at a cost of RM200,000.
“Once the project is completed, every food stall at Taman Bagan Market will be moved into the new food complex.
“With this, there will be more space for hawkers and traders at their new food stalls and also for customers who come to their stalls,” Satees told reporters during the Covid-19 free screening test programme at the Taman Bagan Market today.
Speaking about the programme today, Satees said the drive-through screening test programme was organised by his service centre to help hawkers and petty traders at the Taman Bagan Market to get screened for Covid-19.
“As we know, this market has been ordered to close after a Covid-19 case was detected here. It was ordered to shut from Saturday (Sept 4) after a trader here tested positive for the Covid-19.
“The market is expected to reopen on Monday (Sept 6) after disinfection and sanitisation works are carried out.
“However, any market operators who did not get tested for Covid-19 are not allowed to resume their businesses,” he said.
Satees said a total of 100 market operators were screened today.
“And from that figure, two of them are Covid-19 positive,” he added.
On a separate matter, Satees said he also hoped the Penang government would open up more Covid-19 low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (LRCC) in the state.
“If possible, I hope the state government can set up a LRCC centre at every 40 state constituencies.
“With this, more Covid-19 patients can be put up at the LRCC instead of them undergoing quarantine at home,” he added.
