MEMBERS of Junior Chamber International Nibong Tebal , Development and Village Security (JKKK) of Nibong Tebal and waste collection movement – ‘Lets Do It’ successfully collected 600 kilograms of recycled materials.
The event held on September 15, from 8am to 11am at the park’s basketball court was also participated by some 100 residents of Taman Berjaya.
Assemblymember for Jawi, H’ng Mooi Lye said the purpose of this activity is to respond to the promotion of environmental awareness, starting with ordinary people in the street..
“As the current environment has been severely damaged, experts also estimate that in 2050, the amount of plastic in the sea will exceed the number of fishes there. So it is imperative to reduce the amount of garbage,” he stressed.
The clean up activity was supported by Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) and Jawi state constituency.
Millions of people marked World Cleanup Day on Saturday, joining what was set to be the biggest-ever single day of volunteer-based waste collection efforts.
The World Clean Up event, started by waste collection movement Let’s Do It, called on people to ‘come together to rid our planet of trash – cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from our beaches, rivers, forests, and streets.’
Cleanups were organised in 152 countries around the world, with results from just 75 countries on Saturday night already confirming the participation of more than 14.5 million people.
