‘BATIK’ which is a household name in East Peninsula-Terengganu and Kelantan is now being promoted here in Penang.
The detailed workmanship which enhances its aesthetic values are adored by many.
A two-day Batik Fest is being held in Penang to showcase the Batik products as well as to appreciate the art of Batik.
Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid initiated this festival as a gesture of preserving the heritage of Batik.
“Today marks a very significant day as the Batik Fest 2018 is held for the very first time in Penang.
“The main objective of this programme is to promote the ‘Batik’ heritage and stir the interest in Batik especially among youngsters.
“It is important to appreciate fine arts such as Batik and moreover it is our heritage,” said Syerleena during the launch of the programme on September 15.
Exco for Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Yeoh Soon Hin who officiated the event said that Batik Fest will be made an annual event for Penang.
“This is a heritage of our country which we should preserve.
“Everyone should come here and see for themselves the beauty of ‘Batik’.
“Batik Fest will be made into an annual event so as to instill the interest and love for Batik,” said Yeoh.
