NGOs encouraged to send nominations for councillor posts

NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisations (NGOs) can now submit their nominations for the position of councillors to both the city councils, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said a total quota of seven councillors – four in MBPP and three in MBSP – have been allocated for the NGOs.

“Those NGOs which are interested can download the application forms via the websites of both the city councils starting from today.

“So, I would like to urge all the NGOs to come forward and nominate their members for the position of councillors,” Jagdeep said during a press conference held today at City Hall.

Jagdeep said the service period for the present councillors under the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) would be due on Dec 31 this year.

Thus, he said there is a need to appoint councillors for the new term (January 1 2023 to December 31, 2023) by the end of this year.

The application forms, which can be downloaded from the MBPP and MBSP websites are to be submitted to the office of the local government division by or before Nov 30.

It can be also emailed to [email protected]
