Paying it forward

FROM an annual family tradition which has later transformed into a company corporate social responsibility, M Summit Group believes in paying it forward.

Said its founder and managing director Datuk Albert Moh: “I came from humble beginnings and I am always grateful for the help I had received in the past. Thus, giving back to society has become my life’s mantra.

“I have inculcated this similar spirit of giving and caring into my sons since they were young. During each Chinese New Year, I would bring them to old folks homes and orphanages to spread festive cheer to the residents.

“Now they have grown up and we are passing down this tradition to our company staff whom we viewed as our extended family.”

During the recent 15-day Chinese New Year, Albert led about 20 family members and heads of departments to visit Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang, Penang Senior Citizen Carers Association and Rumah Charis Home for the Children.

The group even included his grandchildren Moh Yu Fong, seven, Jing June, seven, and Jing Hann, one.

Each of the three welfare homes received RM3,000 cash, angpows for the residents and staff and groceries worth RM3,000. The staff members also contributed personal donations.

Seeing the eyes of the old folks lit up while some of the M Summit visitors played basketball and badminton with the Rumah Charis children was heartening.

Peter Tan and Khoo Teik Ee, who are the respective founders of Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang and Penang Senior Citizen Carers Association, said their homes’ wishlist included adult diapers, dishwashing liquid and hospital gloves.

As for Rumah Charis, its coordinator Jackson Pau said body and hair shampoo, vitamin C tablets and rubbish bags were among the essentials which the home most needed.

All three homes said they were relief that the Movement Control Order was over and that more donors were visiting them again.
