Penang and Thailand share a close bond

PENANG cherishes the long-standing and warm relationship with Thailand, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

“I would like to commend the active involvement of the Royal Thai Consulate General in organising various programmes in Penang.

“I am looking forward to more opportunities in strengthening the bond shared by Penang and Thailand.

“Not only that, I also hope that Penang and Thailand will keep on progressing economically and culturally,” Chow said at the reception held in conjunction with Thailand’s National Day and also the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej this evening.

The late King Bhumibol’s birthday was also marked as Father’s Day in Thailand as he was seen by many as the symbolic father of the Thais.

The consul-general of Thailand in Penang Raschada Jiwalai shared that Malaysia and Thailand have been enjoying a fruitful relationship in many aspects.

“I would like to convey my appreciation to the Chief Minister as well as the state government for the support given to the Royal Thai Consulate General throughout the year,” Jiwalai said.

Also present were the state Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, Republic of Indonesia consul-general Iwanshah Wibisono, Japan consul-general Shinichiro Kanoya, People’s Republic of China consul-general Lu Shiwei, and members of the consular corps in Penang.
