Penang govt and SRS Consortium aim to sign deal on PTMP project next month

THE Penang government is working closely with SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd to finalise a formal agreement on the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) possibly by January next year.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government hoped to sign the agreement soonest so that SRS Consortium, the project delivery partner (PDP), could continue with its second stage of work.

The work includes the calling and evaluation of tender and appointment of contractors.

He said there would not be a new PDP as SRS Consortium has been given the authority to undertake the project.

“We hope to sign it in January.

“The reclamation will definitely be the first to start off alongside with the Pan Island Link (PIL) 1 or a Light Rail Transit (LRT) connecting Bayan Lepas to George Town,” he told a press conference in Komtar today.

Chow was responding to a question from a reporter on an English daily article titled, ‘Gamuda expects first Bayan Lepas LRT package award by mid-2020’.

Gamuda Berhad is one of the three entities inside SRS Consortium.

Chow added that the financing of the project must also be finalised during this period.

He said the state’s plan for a bond and Federal Government’s guarantee would be sped up once the signing of a formal agreement with SRS Consortium.

“The state hopes to work on it in the next few months,” he said.
