Penang bags first medal in Sukma 2022

PENANG began the quest to hunt for more medals in the 20th Sukma (Malaysia Games) with an early bronze medal in the Men’s Jianshu (sword) wushu event at the Gymnasium 2, National Sports Council (NSC), Bukit Jalil today.

The 19-year-old Penangite Lim Jue Xin has managed to secure the bronze medal for the Penang contingent after scoring 9.62 points during the first day of the wushu event.

He held his composure and remained calm during the event before managing to secure the bronze medal.

When met by Buletin Mutiara, Jue Xin said he was glad about his overall performance.

“This is my second participation in Sukma. My first was in Perak, back in 2018. After a hiatus of four years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I am happy that I managed to perform.

“I did not manage to win any medals back then. I am pleased with my performance this time, which helps to deliver a bronze for Penang.

“It is a good start for the Penang wushu exponents. I am hoping to do better tomorrow.

“I will do my best,” he said.

Jue Xin is set to compete in the Men’s Qiangshu and Men’s Changquan categories tomorrow.

His parents Lim Soon Huat and Lim Wei Li, who are both 51 years old, were present to witness their son’s achievement.

According to Soon Huat, both he and his wife were present in whichever events Jue Xin took part in.

“We are his strong supporters and we are here to give him give him our fullest support!

“Today’s win is a sweet achievement and I hope he can do well in tomorrow’s events,” he said.

Chief-de-mission Soon Lip Chee, who was present to witness the remarkable performance, congratulated Jue Xin for his effort.

“Self-confidence and staying motivated are the key to success,” said the state Youth and Sports Committee chairman.
