A MASSIVE crowd from party grassroots and supporters thronged the Penang DAP fundraising dinner in Han Chiang High School this evening after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Those present showed their support for the political party through their contributions.

State DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the Penang Chief Minister, thanked the support provided to the party.

Chow is delighted with the contributions rendered to the party during the fundraising dinner.

“I am pleased to witness a strong crowd today. It has been a long time since the last fundraising event took place.

“We truly appreciate the support given to us, especially when we are on the verge of facing the upcoming General Election.

“This fundraising event serves as a platform for us to fight for a better future.

“We hope for better days ahead for the country,” he said in his speech during the event.

Chow aimed at lifting Penang to greater heights while ensuring that the state could be emulated by other states.

“Our record speaks for itself as our investments, job opportunities, and tourism sector have continued to grow after the pandemic.

“Above that, we have honoured our election promises which we made to the people,” he said.

Some of the attendees are seen donating during the fundraising dinner.

DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng urged the Federal Government not to turn the upcoming national Budget, scheduled to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 7 into an election Budget.

He said it was important to prioritise the people’s welfare now.

“We need to solve the problems faced by the people now rather than calling for snap polls,” the Bagan MP said.

DAP national secretary-general Anthony Loke, nevertheless, noted the traffic issues faced by Penang.

He hoped that he could deliver his best again as a Transport Minister if Pakatan Harapan (PH) managed to wrest Putrajaya in the next polls.

Among those present were Chow’s wife Tan Lean Kee, DAP stalwart and Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang, PKR vice-president and Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Parit Buntar MP Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Senator Lim Hui Ying, DAP parliamentarians and state assemblymen.
