PENANG is targeting 60 gold medals at the upcoming Sukma 2026 in Selangor, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Padang Kota) said while tabling the 2026 state budget in the State Legislative Assembly.
Chow said the Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) is preparing athletes for 37 events, providing intensive training and strong support.
“Our athletes are working hard, and we are committed to providing the resources and guidance needed to achieve our medal targets,” he said.
According to Chow, the state government has allocated RM350,000 to the Sports Committee this year, along with RM7 million each to MSNPP and the Penang Stadium and Open Spaces Corporation to fund state-level sports programmes and facilities.
Chow also highlighted support rendered for football development in the state.
“We are providing RM8 million in operating grants to Penang Football Club (PFC) to strengthen local football and nurture young talent,” he said.
On economic development, Chow said the state is focusing on four key strategies to improve household income.

They are modernising local manufacturing for the digital and green economy, diversifying sustainable agriculture, expanding quality tourism products across Penang island and Seberang Perai, and supporting the business services sector.
“These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to a development agenda that integrates sports, culture, and economic growth for the people of Penang,” Chow added.
