Penang govt commits to build a liveable city for the people

THE Penang government has been encouraging the people to use public vehicle as the mode of transport.

Staying true to the state’s vision and also to raise awareness on the proposed Bayan Lepas LRT stations, the Penang LRT Hunt 2019 was held.

Fifty teams comprising 200 participants took part in the fun, family-orientated and environmental-friendly event. The event began at Komtar at 7am and ended at Giant Bayan Baru.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the event was more meaningful with the Bayan Lepas LRT project receiving its conditional approval from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) recently.

“We are committed to building a vibrant and liveable city in line with the Penang2030 vision,” he said at the closing ceremony in Giant Bayan Baru today.

The LRT Hunt was the brainchild of the Chief Minister.

It was part of a series of public engagement events aimed at increasing public awareness on the proposed Bayan Lepas LRT stations. Some of the proposed locations are at Komtar, Macallum Street, Bandar Sri Pinang, East Jelutong, Gelugor, Batu Uban, Sungai Nibong, Bukit Jambul and Jalan Tengah.

It was organised by the Penang state government in collaboration with Penang Island City Council. The main sponsor of the hunt was Penang International Exchange.

Proceeds from Penang LRT Hunt 2019 will be channeled to JCI E-Metro to fund their youth welfare programmes and activities.

Later during a press conference, Chow briefed newsmen on the 30 requirements listed in the conditional approval for the Bayan Lepas LRT project.
