THE Penang government is committed to safeguard the people’s interests, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.

“The state government has always ensured that policies are formulated to address concerns and allocations from the state’s Budget are distributed fairly and in accordance with the needs of the society.

“Malaysia is unique. People from different religious backgrounds, beliefs and cultures form this society; and each has the right to triumph in economy, education and other sectors.

“While it is the government’s role to ensure that the people’s interests are protected, the people have a role to play in growing and contributing towards the development of the state and the country,” Chow said in his speech during the Deepavali open house hosted by Penang DAP at Dewan Serbaguna Jawi in Jalan Serindit Jawi, Seberang Perai today.

Chow said the state had always strived to provide the best environment for students.

“We believe that education is the key to produce quality and excellent human capital,” he said.

Chow also said that Penang was progressing very well in economic development.

“Many factories are being set up at the Batu Kawan industrial area. Job and business opportunities will be available when the factories are ready to operate.

“Penang has been well-governed by the Pakatan Harapan coalition. The state government may not be perfect but it strives to protect the people’s interests and ensures that the state’s economy continues to flourish,” he added.

People from all walks of life thronged the Deepavali open house.
