Penang Hill Festival helps promote conservation efforts

THE Penang Hill Festival (PHF) 2019 should be continued to be conducted to facilitate strong relationships among the communities and to promote conservation efforts towards the beautiful hill.

Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai said lthe brilliant presentation by the various Malaysian cultural performers mesmerised the audience since the festival kicked off on July 18.

“The festival allows visitors and locals to not only experience the spectacular atmosphere of this crown jewel of Penang, but also offers a chance to former visitors to come back and reminisce the rich history and culture,” Wong, who represented Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, said at the closing ceremony of the festival.

Last year, the inaugural Penang Hill Festival successfully attracted some 52,000 visitors over a span of nine days.

Also present were Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Leng, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng and Penang Global Tourism general manager, Ooi Cheok Yan.

Cheok said the festival, themed ‘Music on the Hill – East Meets West,’ a signature event of PHF 2019 is a uinique musical performance that represented the very essence of diversity of Penang Hill Festival.

“It is our goal at PHC towards preserving and conserving this beautiful hill so that our future generations will continue to enjoy this beautiful gem of Penang.

“Through these carefully planned and fun-filled activities that focus on learning, preservation and conservation, I hope that the public will have greater opportunities to join and learn more about the history and nature of Penang Hill,” he said.

Students from St Georges School’s Jazz Band entertained the crowd.
