THE Penang Hill Funicular Service will be temporarily closed from Jan 4 to 10 next year for its first bi-annual scheduled maintenance, with services expected to resume on Jan 11.

Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) said the maintenance was carried out twice a year under the supervision of engineers from the funicular manufacturer, Garaventa AG of Switzerland, to ensure the system remained in good operating condition and complied with stringent safety requirements.

The upcoming maintenance will include repairs to the track structure at the Lower Station, as well as repairs to the funicular’s air-conditioning system and roof.

PHC said regular checks and maintenance of the funicular system were also conducted daily, weekly and monthly, along with routine inspections after operating hours.

During the temporary closure, visitors can use the jeep service operated by the Penang Hill Jeep Service Association, located next to the Penang Botanic Gardens Department Office.

The jeep service can be contacted at 012-454 1255.

Visitors may also use the existing hiking routes to reach the summit area of Penang Hill during the maintenance period.

PHC apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked visitors for their patience and continued support.

For enquiries, the public can contact PHC at 04-828 8880 or email [email protected].
