PENANG Legislature Assembly Opposition Leader Datuk Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor has been invited to be a member of the high-level Penang Security Council Committee (JKKN).

The council is chaired by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. This special committee is responsible for all coordination works involving Federal and state agencies in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chow said: “I have invited him (Muhamad Yusoff) to attend our next scheduled meeting on March 30 (Monday) at 9.30am in Komtar and I am pleased to inform that he has accepted both the appointment and invitation.”

“I sincerely hope that all Penang elected representatives, regardless of whether in government or the opposition, will work together to look after the welfare, health, security and well-being of the Penangites.

“We need to work together so that the people will receive the needed help, quickly and smoothly,” Chow told the public via Facebook Live on his Facebook page today.

The Penang government hoped that the Federal Government’s RM250 billion Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package and state’s RM75 million People’s Aid Package will enable the people to recover from the economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chow said both stimulus packages, as announced by Federal and state governments, were meant to assist those impacted during this challenging period.

He pointed out this was the second economic stimulus package announced by Federal Government, following the RM20 billion economic stimulus package announced by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Feb 27.

“On our end, the state government’s focus is to ensure that all assistance and financial incentives will reach the targeted groups soonest. For the Penang People’s Aid Package, I promise that the financial assistance will be distributed in April, which is four days from now.

Chow also extended his gratitude to the frontliners for their contributions throughout these 11 days of movement control order (MCO).
