THE Penang police have increased the number of roadblocks in the state from 43 to 46 today.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan said the police would continue to monitor the situation from time to time.

“The overall compliance rate in Penang, on the first day of the ‘full lockdown’ yesterday, was generally good.

“I patrolled several areas in Penang yesterday and last night.

“The situation last night was almost similar to the situation we had during the first movement control order (MCO).

“However, there was a significant reduction in compliance rate yesterday morning, in terms of traffic.

“Our Covid-19 SOP compliance monitoring teams will conduct more stringent inspections and enforce the SOP. The enforcement includes the 10km radius movement restriction,” Comm Sahabudin said when contacted today.

He urged the public to reduce their movement to curb the spread of the pandemic.

“I advise everyone to seriously obey the SOP during the two-week ‘full lockdown’ period.

“Understand the purpose of the lockdown. It is important for us to break the Covid-19 infection chain,” he said.

Meanwhile, traffic was quite heavy before the roadblock in Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (from George Town to Penang Bridge) between 8.30am and 9am today.

Traffic heading to the Penang Bridge is quite heavy between 8.30am and 9am.

However, the traffic in Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (from Batu Maung to the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge) was normal, when checked between 9.30am and 10am.
