Penang state-level Youth Day celebration a success

HUNDREDS of youths thronged the Batu Kawan Stadium to attend the Penang state-level Youth Day celebration today.

 

The one-day event was jointly organised by the state government, through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), and TLM Event Sdn Bhd. It was open to the public, especially the youth.

Among the highlights of the event were a civic awareness campaign on Undi18 and Penang Youth Volunteer initiatives.

 

Other activities included singing in any performances by talented youth in Penang, a 5km fun run, a Zumba dance session, a lucky draw and many others.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the Youth Day celebration is celebrated today to commemorate youth as vital assets to the country while also educating the public about the role of youth nowadays.

 

“The youths’ ideas, imagination, and enthusiasm are undeniably important for the continued growth of the state in which they reside.

“After all, the youths have a much more important role in nation-building than you might think.

 

“The future of the country depends on them and they represent it at every level. Thus, every youth is equally responsible, for a country’s future.

 

“They are the building blocks of a country. And through this Youth Day celebration, the state government is also acknowledging our youth’s involvement, devotion, efforts, and excellence in the development of our state,” Soon said in his speech during the Youth Day celebration at Batu Kawan Stadium today.

Also present were Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling, Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) director Harry Chai Heng Hua and TLM Event managing director Jack Wong.

According to Dr Gwee, the youths have always been PYDC’s main focus for development.

 

“And today we are excited to engage with all of them through our special exhibition on the initiative and programmes taken by PYDC which include economic development, social development, and self-development.

 

“It’s a very interesting journey by PYDC in developing our youth to showcase their growth and achievement and the public can see it here,” she said.
