THE Penang government today announced a programme called Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge 2020, which is set to be held from Aug 3 to Oct 3.

Themed ‘Youth For Future’, the programme is a collective effort among the Penang government, Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) and the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur Section (PCC YES).

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the programme would help cultivate a business mindset among youths and was also important for them to stay competitive in the modern-day where technology and innovation are prime assets.

“Innovation and technology are the way forward in this modern-day era; therefore, it is important for youths to realise the need to stay in touch with the current trend.

“That is why this programme will be a useful platform for them to showcase their talent,” he said during a press conference in Komtar today.

The programme is open to all youths in Penang, aged 18 to 30. All participants are required to prepare a ‘Business Plan’ according to the terms and conditions set.

Soon says the field of entrepreneurship can shape a bright future for youths

For non-Penangites who are studying or working in Penang, they are required to prepare a certification letter from their respective institutes or companies.

“This platform is not only limited to youths from the business field but also open to those from other fields as well because we want to make sure it benefits all youths without conditions,” Soon added.

PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said this would be a great platform for youths in Penang to rise and shine in the area of entrepreneurship, especially those youths with burning desire to make a change and be successful.

“Entrepreneurship can be a challenging area to explore in, but nothing comes easy in life. To be a successful entrepreneur, you will face challenges in different forms, but the outcome is the sweetest,” she said during her speech at Komtar.

Also in attendance were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi, Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong and Penang Skills Development Centre chief operating officer Lim Wei Chen.

The prizes up for grabs for the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up are RM15,000, RM10,000 and RM8,000 respectively.
