Persatuan Wadda Gurdwara Sahib Pulau Pinang seeks state govt’s help on several issues

REPRESENTATIVES from Persatuan Wadda Gurdwara Sahib Pulau Pinang which is one of the oldest in the region paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today at his office.

Daljit Singh, who’s the president of the Persatuan Gurdwara Sahib Pulau Pinang, highlighted some of the pressing issues faced by the association with regards to the needs of the community.

According to Daljit, the building (Persatuan Gurdwara Sahib Pulau Pinang) which is 120 years old and falls under the category of heritage building urgently needs to be restored.

“It requires serious attention as its structure and walls are giving way due to old and aging structure, hence we are here seeking the help of the state government to support us financially in our attempt to restore the building.

“Another matter which we would like to bring to your attention is the car park issue which is a pending and unsolved problem for us. During our Sunday programmes and major events, the members and visitors find it difficult to park their vehicles due to the inadequate space within the compound of the gurdwara.

“So here we are requesting to be allowed to utilise the vacant piece of land under the Veterinary Department to park our vehicles whenever we have programmes at the gurdwara especially during big events,” Daljit told the chief minister.

Apart from this, Daljit also brought up the urgent matter concerning the Sikh Crematorium ground situated at Lot 62, Jalan Batu Lanchang.

“We also need the state government’s support to enhance and refurbish the crematorium ground.(Lot 62,Jalan Batu Lanchang).

“On top of that, in the past, the Sikh crematorium was shifted from one place to another and now it is here, so we really hope that we will be given our own piece of land to built a permanent crematorium,” added Daljit.
