THE ‘Pet Fair’ 2018 attracted many animal lovers as it showcased their various breeds in many beautiful ways.

Held at C Mart Nibong Tebal on Nov 30, about 40 participants took part in the event that was exemplified by human-animal bond.

Jawi assemblyman H’ng Mooi Lye, who officiated the fair, said the goal of the carnival was to create a society that cares about the welfare of pets as well as efforts to address animal issues.

“Pets are domestic animals or animals that are domesticated to be friends and for protection or entertainment. Keeping pets is actually very beneficial,” H’ng said in his speech.

“Among the benefits to health that you can get when you have a pet at home is that it eliminates stress and relieves depression. It will release endorphin hormones from the brain that will make you more confident, feel happier and positive-minded.

“In addition, it can prevent allergy in children. Many say allergy is caused by animal fur but studies show that children living with pets are more resistant to allergies, fever and eczema.

“Even if your children are less than six months old, it will strengthen them from allergies.

“Another benefit of having animals is safety. For example, if a dog sniffs out the presence of fire or feels its master’s house is broken into by a thief, the dog will bark to alert others. Similarly with cats, they are also good guards!”

H’ng said Pet Fair is an opportunity to make more people realise the value of the animals and appreciate them.

“Never throw a cat to the streets or torture them. Cats are also like people who need love. They can also take care of the house especially from the rat threats.

“Hence, loving or appreciating pets brings great benefits as they are also creatures of God,” H’ng emphasised.
