Physically challenged victim in hot water incident in stable condition

THE person with disability (OKU) who sustained burns during the hot water incident in the elevator at an apartment building on Jalan Rajawali, Bayan Lepas is now in stable condition.

 

Penang Hospital director Dr Goh Hin Kwang said the victim suffered 6% burns on his body during the incident.

 

“He has been placed in a special ward to treat his burns on the front and back of his right side due to exposure to hot water. We are closely monitoring his condition.

 

“He is showing positive signs of recovery. We expect he can fully recover within one to two weeks before being discharged,” Dr Goh told reporters when met at the hospital today.

 

Also present were Penang Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz and Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) chief executive officer Datuk Ong Bee Leng.

Lim, who visited the victim earlier, said she is glad at hearing about his improved health condition.

 

“We provided RM500 cash assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and YB Azrul also contributed additional cash assistance to the victim.

 

“Nevertheless, we will continue to monitor his situation and get regular updates from Penang Hospital to determine further assistance we can offer. We wish him a speedy recovery,” she said.

 

On Friday (April 19), a woman allegedly splashed hot water on a man with Down syndrome in an apartment elevator in Bayan Lepas.

 

Police have detained the female suspect, who lives in the same neighbourhood as the victim. The investigation is now ongoing.
