STUDENTS have been urged to plan their careers and not to be totally focused on only academic education.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee today urged them to be all rounded so as to become useful citizens.

“At times, we have students who are totally focused towards education and examinations till they lost  the preparation for their future,” Soon said this when he officiated the ‘Career Exploration Workshop’ held at St George Girls School (SGGS) in George Town this morning.

“Besides, there is a need to raise awareness of career guidance and counselling for students to help them make better decisions,” he added.

Also present were Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit, SGGS principal Athiyah Razak, UWC Berhad deputy group chief executive officer Matin Ng Chin Liang, ViTrox
Corporation Berhad manager/people management Johreyna Yeoh Siew Eng and its engineer Lien Wen Yee.

Soon said besides aiming to further expose students to the various career choices, the career exploration workshop was to inspire them to make the right choices.

“I hope the sharing sessions from the speakers in various fields like accountancy, people management and engineering will give the students different perception about these careers,” he commented.

Meanwhile, Athiyah, in thanking the trio of Ng, Yeoh and Lien for sharing their expertise, expressed hopes that students would increase their efforts to face the coming SPM examination at the end of the year.
