A COMMERCIAL complex in Bukit Gambir, Gelugor, Plaza Ivory has taken a significant step towards enhancing public safety with the installation of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

The life-saving device has been installed at the Huo Feng Huang Restaurant within the complex and was generously sponsored by philanthropist Emily Lim.

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, who officiated the installation ceremony today, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Lim for her continued commitment to community health and safety.

“This is her second AED donation, following her earlier contribution to the installation of an AED at Golden Phoenix Restaurant, which became the first hawker centre in Penang to be equipped with such a device,” he said.

Wong praised Lim’s leadership and civic spirit, noting that her actions reflect a deep sense of social responsibility and serve as an inspiration for others to actively contribute to public health initiatives.

He added that the installation marks an important milestone not only for Plaza Ivory but also for the wider Penang community.

“The installation of an AED may appear simple, but its impact is profound. It is a silent guardian, always ready and capable of saving lives when every second matters,” Wong said.

Highlighting the strategic location of Plaza Ivory in a densely populated area, Wong noted that Universiti Sains Malaysia is situated directly opposite the complex, making the availability of an AED even more crucial.

“This AED will serve as a vital lifeline, ensuring that immediate assistance can be provided during cardiac emergencies, where every second truly counts,” he added.

Wong concluded by expressing hope that the spirit of community responsibility demonstrated through this initiative would continue to inspire similar efforts across Penang and beyond.

“Together, we are building a Penang that is not only vibrant and welcoming, but also prepared, resilient and ready to save lives,” he said.

Also present were CERT George Town chairman Lim Thiam Chong, CERT George Town honorary lifetime president Datuk Christopher Barnabas, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillors Chan Soon Aun and Tan May Peng, MBPP corporate management and community director Muhammad Muashraf Mohamed and Safetyware Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Stephanie Kok.
