PENANG police will intensify their presence around schools, particularly boarding schools, by deploying Motorcycle Patrol Units (URB) and Mobile Patrol Vehicles (MPV) in an effort to curb bullying cases among students.
State police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the move follows a recent series of discussions with the Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Education Department director Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad on strengthening safety measures in school environments.
He said regular patrols will be carried out, especially during the night, to create a safer and more secure atmosphere for students and staff.
“We are taking a proactive approach. Apart from investigating and taking firm action in every reported bullying case, we will also place our School Liaison Officers more frequently at schools identified as high-risk.
“The URB and MPV teams will patrol school areas, particularly hostels, at night to increase police visibility and deter potential offenders,” he said after launching the PDRM Penang International 2nd Bridge Solidarity Fun Ride 2026 at the state police headquarters here today.
Azizee said the initiative is part of a broader effort by the police to collaborate with the Education Ministry in tackling disciplinary and crime-related issues in schools, which have become a growing concern nationwide.
He added that the police are working closely with school administrators and parent-teacher associations (PIBG) to ensure swift intervention whenever bullying or other student misconduct occurs.
“Schools must remain a place for learning and development, not fear. We want parents and students to know that the police are serious about ensuring their safety,” he said.
Meanwhile, Azizee said about 3,000 participants are expected to join the upcoming PDRM Penang International 2nd Bridge Solidarity Fun Ride 2026, scheduled for Jan 3 next year.
The event aims to foster closer ties between law enforcement and the public while promoting healthy lifestyles.
Azizee also shared that close to 1,000 participants have already registered for the upcoming event.
The registration fee is RM160 for the first 1,000 early bird participants, and RM180 thereafter.
