THE response from voters and residents in the Seri Delima state constituency, which falls under the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency, has been overwhelmingly positive following the public market visit at Island Glades this morning, says Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He noted that marketgoers, traders, and hawkers were highly receptive during his walkabout, accompanied by several elected representatives, including Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan Hooi Peng.
“We can see that the positive response here is not because elected representatives appear only once every five years, but because of the continuous groundwork carried out with MPKKs, councillors, and local organisations. This ongoing engagement is what strengthens both the party and the state government,” Chow told reporters after visiting the Island Glades Market.
He encouraged all elected representatives and MPKKs across Penang to maintain close ties with their constituents through regular constituency services, cooperation with local organisations, addressing community issues, and improving basic infrastructure. This, he said, ensures the public always has the opportunity to raise issues that can be resolved by the government.
“This is how we strengthen our support on the ground. We aim to establish our support firmly in every constituency and community. Only through such interactions can the people truly feel our care and efforts,” he explained.

Chow, who had lived in Seri Delima for 20 years, also shared that while he did not have many opportunities to visit the area after moving away, the residents still remembered him.
“What they miss is not just me, but what stands behind me — the party and the Penang state government,” he said.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh remarked that their efforts to engage with the community have been ongoing for quite some time.
“It is not something new. We will continue to do this as much as possible. It is not seasonal. This is part of our ongoing commitment to the community,” he said.

Connie Tan expressed her appreciation to the state leaders, including Chow, for connecting with the residents of Seri Delima.
“As the elected representative for this area, I am very happy and encouraged. I usually go down to the ground with the MPKK members, and the response has been extremely positive.
“Looking at the Island Glades morning market, the traders here previously did not have proper licences. After I became their elected representative, I worked together with the MPKK to help 76 traders obtain the necessary licences,” she shared.

In addition, the marketplace now boasts a beautiful entrance arch to recognise the contributions of the local community.
“Previously, the area was messy and disorganised, but now it is tidy, has its own identity, and the traders have legitimate, designated lots.
“As the local representative, we will continue working hard to assist traders and ensure the best possible service to the residents here,” Tan added.
