Practise responsible tourism while holidaying, says exco man

THE Penang government launched the ‘Experience It All In Penang, Responsibly’ campaign today to further enhance domestic tourism in the state.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the campaign has two important objectives: one is as a reminder to all the domestic tourists and tourism industry players to stay compliant with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the other is to boost the local economy.

“With the conditional movement control order (CMCO) being lifted, we can see an influx of tourists to the state. Thus, it is timely that we launch this campaign.

“Through this campaign we would like to remind domestic tourists as well as the tourism industry players to practise responsible tourism.

“This campaign will play a pivotal role in helping the locals with their businesses.

“’Experience It All In Penang, Responsibly’ campaign is basically an extension to the Penang Responsible Tourism campaign which was launched earlier in July,’’ said Yeoh during the launching ceremony of the campaign at the E&O Hotel today.

Yeoh also unveiled the advertisement for the campaign which was displayed on a Rapid Penang bus as well as a bus shelter located along Light Street.

Apart from that, Yeoh said the hotels in Penang have reported good occupancy rate since the CMCO was lifted.

“The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) president Mr Khoo Boo Lim, who could not attend the function today, has provided some figures on the occupancy rate of the hotels in Penang.

“According to Lim, the beach hotels on the island recorded 82 percent of occupancy rate while city hotels on the island and the mainland recorded 51 percent and 62 percent respectively,’’ said Yeoh.

He also encouraged holiday-goers to check out the ‘Best Year End Deals’ at penangtraveldeals.com which acts as a one-stop-shop for a wholesome vacation.

“The ‘Best Year End Deals’ offer festive promotions such as delicious buffet spreads, New Year countdown celebration room packages and many others.

“So, grab this opportunity and have a pleasant Christmas and New Year holidays. Having said this, let me also remind everyone to practise responsible tourism whilst enjoying Penang’s diversity,’’ added Yeoh.

A new promotional video entitled ‘Experience It All in Penang’, which is part of the campaign, was screened during the launch.

The video highlights some of the world-class attractions found in Penang.

According to Penang Global Tourism (PGT) chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan, the video compares 14 tourist attractions around the world to the ones in Penang.

For instance, Penang Hill’s funicular train to Hong Kong’s peak tram, The TOP Penang’s Rainbow Skywalk to China’s Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge, The Habitat Penang Hill’s Flight of the Colugo to New Zealand’s Rotorua Canopy Tours, Penang’s ferry to Hong Kong’s Kowloon ferry and many others.

“Come visit Penang as it offers ‘all in all’ visiting experience. There are top notch tourist travel destinations here which could give you the similar experiences of visiting international tourist attractions,’’ said Ooi.

Also present were Penang Tourist Guides Association president Chin Poh Chin, Association of Tourism Attractions Penang chairman Ch’ng Huck Teng and Parisign Media Sdn Bhd general manager Henry Tan.
