MANY students ride the motorcycle to school. But, how many of them understand the importance of road safety?

Bagan Jermal assemblyman Soon Lip Chee saw the need to promote safe riding practices among the students.

His office, together with the Penang Road Safety Department (JKJR), and the Petronas Raja Uda, Butterworth, jointly organised the ‘Drive Safe With Us’ programme at a few schools in the Bagan Jermal constituency.

Soon said the programme was held to promote road safety awareness among the students.

“It teaches them and their parents to practice good riding habits.

“It also helps them understand the need to wear a helmet before riding on the road.

Fifty-four students from SK Bagan Jermal were presented with helmets during the programme at the school today.

Soon said that the programme could help to reduce serious or fatal accidents among students.

Penang JKJR director M. Thurkah Thevi said motorcyclists should pay close attention to the quality of their helmet.

“The helmet protects one of the most important parts of your body, which is the head,” Thurkah Thevi said.

The programme is scheduled to continue after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
