PSDC celebrates three decades of excellence

THE Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) celebrates the 30th anniversary of its successful run as one of the leading human resource institutions in Malaysia.

“The PSDC is the first skills development centre in Malaysia and I am proud that it has maintained its position as the premier talent development institution in Penang and Malaysia since its establishment 30 years ago,” said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who attended the PSDC’s 30th anniversary dinner at the Equatorial Hotel this evening.

“I believe we can agree that PSDC’s core strength and speciality are its industry network.

“The PSDC is among the few if not probably the only institution which is able to bring together the heads of large local and leading international companies to provide leadership and strategic direction in terms of human resources development initiatives and programmes in Penang as well as Malaysia,” he added.

In conjunction of its three decade of excellence in producing skillful workforce, a book launch was also held at the dinner.

The book contains the history of PSDC right from how it was established, its progress to what it is now and also on the important people who played a significant role in developing it.

“In the past three decades the PSDC has proven time and time again that it is able to be a channel between the government and the industry.

“PSDC is a neutral and effective platform for the government and the industry to come together to discuss relevant issues with regard to the industrialisation of Penang,” Chow added.

Chow also stated that PSDC in many occasions had introduced new initiatives and programmes as a result of the brainstorming sessions and engagements between the state government and industry.

“We hope that PSDC will play a key role in helping the state government to achieve the Penang2030 vision by helping to prepare the local manufacturing industries for the digital age and green economy,” Chow said.

Also present were the former Chief Minister of Penang Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, chairman of the PSDC Management Council Andre Holzhausen, general manager of Penang Development Corporation Datuk Mohd Bazid Abd Kahar, PSDC chief executive officer Muhamed Ali Hajah Mydin and former chief executive officer of PSDC Datuk Boonler Somchit.
